Carrying batteries to the repeaters. This was so dry and dusty.
It was a pretty good hike at approx 7000 ft elevation over some bumpy terrain.
Still walking to the repeaters.
Pretty obvious that it just burned here. Green grass just a short distance away.
Repeater site. Note the ropes on the right side of the picture. They are supporting the antennas.
Rick working on the radio.
The little stubble was 10 yr old growth that is freshly burned over. The large timber is what is left from the old burn. Can be tricky to walk on.
Making it back to our transportation
Getting ready to head back to camp. Left to right = Rick, Cliff and myself.
Taking off. There is a fire fighter hiding in the trees trying to stay out of the dust.
During landing, the pilot circled pretty low to the ground and a porta potty did not fair so well.
Getting a rental vehicle from Redding. It was pretty warm.
Driving to Forks of Salmon.
Setting up a remote satellite for internet access to a spike camp.
Setting some of the needed angles.
Satellite in a box.
Almost done setting up the dish.
It looks pretty simple once it is complete.
There was a dip site very close to the spike camp. This helicopter was dipping from the river.
Done dipping and heading back to drop the water.
Final resting spot for the satellite.
This is the other part of the satellite. In this box is the indoor satellite part, a UPS and a router.
