Looking very serious as I read from Abraham Lincoln's letter to a Civil War woman who lost five sons.
"My fellow Americans. Ask nawt what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for you country."
"My fellow citizens of the world - Ask nawt what American can can do for you ... but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
I tried to make the final lines from "Let Freedom Ring" sound like Martin Luther King. I can't recite the words to the song without thinking of Dr. King's "Dream" speech, so I did my best. I'm not sure if anyone else got it, but that's OK. "From EVERY mountainside, let freedom ring!"
I got to speak afterward to some very appreciative audience members, and several complimentary LCSO board members, which was a lovely end to the weekend.
