Employees of Southeast Baptist Hospital got the opportunity to forever be a part of the new hospital by signing their names on a beam that became part of the Mission Trail Baptist Hospital building. The signed beam was hoisted into position atop the new Mission Trail Baptist Hospital signifying completion of the top floor and metal infrastructure of the building. Groundbreaking Event for the New Mission Trail Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas

The new Mission Trail Baptist Hospital is being built to replace Southeast Baptist Hospital, which has been serving the south side community since 1971. Rather than try and remodel the aging facility, Baptist leadership decided a brand new hospital would better meet the growing health care needs of south San Antonio and surrounding communities.

Surgical Management of Melanoma Talk at the Downtown Rotary

The early diagnosis and accurate management of melanoma is crucial for enhancing patient outcomes. Melanoma continues to be a growing health concern. 62,500 new cases of melanoma were diagnosed in 2008. There will be an estimated 8250 deaths in 2009 as a result of this disease. In the U.S., the estimated lifetime risk is 1 in 55 for males, 1 in 81 for females. The incidence of melanoma is increasing more rapidly than any other cancer in men and is second only to lung cancer in women. This presentation will provide an overview of the risk factors for melanoma, how to recognize and diagnose it and how it is treated.

Hear her unique perspective, get free screenings and health information and receive your free stroke prevention kit. Since it was launched last August, The Brain & Stroke Network has saved lives by educating people about stroke, equipping a top-of-the-line neurosurgery suite, and by coordinating the efforts of EMS, emergency departments, physicians who treat brain injury and disease, and those who help patients recover and rehabilitate. The event is FREE and open to the public.

SA Eye Bank Recognizes ED of North Central Baptist

San Antonio Eye Bank Recognizes Emergency Department of North Central Baptist Hospital as 2008 Hospital Unit Of The Year - North Central Baptist Hospital - Emergency Department, had the highest percentage of eye/corneal donation rate (32%) of any large hospital system unit within the eye bank’s service area. North Central Baptist Hospital opened in 1991, and is a full-service hospital, and is a part of the Baptist Health System. The hospital offers adult and pediatric emergency care, specialized pediatric care, and the highest level of mother and baby care in the San Antonio/Stone Oak area, including a level IIIb NICU.

Booker T. Washington Career Day

As part of our community outreach we participate in providing community education via schools. We had the privilege of speaking to kinder through second grade students at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, near the San Antonio Alamodome, downtown. Brian Treuhaft, DO, Board Certified in Internal Medicine, from the BHS Physicians Network, Melissa Castano, RD, LD and Kevin Haubrick, MS, RD, LD from Baptist Medical Center Dietary and Donna Hedges, Nursing Instructor from the Baptist Health System School of Health Professions all took turns to talk about their respective professions and how they decided to go into their field of expertise. The children were very excited and interested to hear from these professionals and find out more about how they too can one day become a doctor, nurse or dietitian.
