Blouza Reunion 2008

The decendants of Lebanese from the village of Blouza, Lebanon have been meeting since 1980. Here, they try to keep their cultural traitions alive. Various families come from all over to eat, drink, dance and talk.

A Village Called "Dallas"

Outside the city of Cluj, Romania lives a group of Gypsies who, for 100 euros a month, sort the refuse in the local landfill. Their village, located on the outskirts, is built from the rubbish which they find there. It got its name because of all the horses employed there to haul the garbage from the dump.

The Old Lady

This woman is one of the oldest people in the Romany village and is still very active. She can sometimes be seen hauling wood up from the lake below for her stove. I couldn't decide if I should make her portraits black and white or color. I'll sleep on it.

Gypsy Village in Gura Râului

This is a series of photos taken in the idyllic village of Gura Râului, located at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, Romania. The Gypsy village is located directly above the main village. The conditions are better than that most with some houses having running water and electricity. When it was founded is not known, but it is probably several hundred years old. (The name is pronounced Goora 'RAY-ooh-louie with a rolling Scottish 'r')

They may have been producing beer still (barely) at that time, but you would have never have known it. I had fun showing the Braumeister around his own Brewery. An amazing trip and I'll never drink Blackened Voodoo again!!!

House-diving Series-Großbothen

The train station as well as its outbuildings are mostly abandoned due to the loss of industry such as the fireclay brick factory which is off in the distance. Also the changing of the rail system and the streamlining of its functions by the German Rail have left many buildings abandoned and ransackt by vandals...
