"Not the aim, despite what seems to be the the advertising. As defined by the D4 / 5D market for a big chunky camera for sports, motor racing etc... there is no point in any company other than Canon / Nikon mixing in with it. There's just an uphill battle and those brands have the bodies, the lens catalogue, the rental market, the fast turn around repair, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, even Pentax just know that this is not a segment they can possibly win nor be financially successful. Like an ant trying to rape an elephant.

However, in the enthusiast market, the traveller, journo / diaryist, writer, blogger, the keen amateur, the technology is there already and the emphasis is often on small size. inconspicuous, handy.

The current models Olys, Panasonics, Sony NEX, the Fuji can all deliver quality and some of these at ISO 1600.

What they need is the perception of "rezpect" - of being good enough, robust enough in wet weather, with bright enough lenses, with long enough lenses.

That's why the OM-D - to win the percption"
