View of the dune from the road.
A non-official trail leading to the dune.
The end of the trail is a bit of a shock.... look at that mountain of sand!
It's nice and cool here.
The ascent up the back of the dune is at a 45 degree angle and with every step forward, you slide half a step down. In the heat of the day, it's a losing battle.
Looking down after 20 minutes, we didn't get very high up.
Looking north.
Looking north-west
North again
Better put on some sunscreen...!
Feeling nauseous.
Smile for the camera.
The dune - take two, this time on the official trail, with fibreglass stairs and a rope handrail!
Got to the top in 5 minutes!
Nice and cool at the bottom.
Looking out over the forest from the top.
To the far end, you can see the bit we tried to climb without stairs.
View of the ocean.
The dune stretches on for around 3km and is about 120 metres high.
Yves holds some lava rock. It's very light!
View from the beach snack hut at the bottom of the dune. We stopped here for a drink about half an hour before sunset. Lovely!
It's a long way back up and there are no stairs...!
No stairs at all...!
Sunset
Here we are!
