"Saved by Grace" Youth Camp 2011 CELC-LCMS

A Youth Camp for the churches of the CELC, China Evangelical Lutheran Church, held over the weekend of 2-28. This camp was like a District Youth Gathering or any number of "overnights" that churches do in the LCMS. Also, our GEO's who are working at EFL Teachers with Concordia Middle School, were able to partcipate and help lead the way. There are many opportunities like this with LCMS World Mission, please be sure to check it out!

James in Macau

Since Tuesday, March 30th I have been in Macau, SAR. A Special Adminstrative Region of China. It is across the bay from Hong Kong and has become very well known for it's casions. Here are some of my first pictures of my apartment, my workplace - Concordia English Outreach Center - and the church where I was able to attend Good Friday and Easter Sunday services.

Tea Ceremony

A week before the end of classes I was able to experience a tea ceremony with one of my students Masako. Thank you Masako for your energy, sincereity and wonderful smile. May you continue to grow in God's love. Jesus lived, died, and rose again for you (and any of you who are reading this and looking at these pictures.) Also, may the traditions and reasons for the Tea Ceremony help remind us of the need for reconciliation, discipline, community, and special relationships which we have with God and our fellow Brothers and Sisters.

New Year and Mochi; the Neighbors and Nozomi Lutheran Church

This was a New Year's Party, but it was held in February because of the weather and various activities. February 11th is officially a "holiday", it is called Foundation Day. However, this day and celebration has a history that is rooted in the government was headed by the Emperor. These days, the Emperor is still important, but his role in the government than in the past. What does this mean: nothing much. The day was a day off work/school - and people celebrated by making some "mochi' (mo-chee; sticky--rice cakes) and having a good time of food and festivity.

CHRISTmas Eve Candle-Light Service

A Silent Night, young and old gathered together to confess sins, listen to God's Word, take communion, welcome guests, and sing hymns to give praise for the Christ-child born in Bethlehem! Alleluia, our Savior's birth has arrived!
