Honoring Keren's 8th Birthday

Keren's eighth birthday was on September 27, her second birthday in Heaven. This year we wanted to do something specific and special to celebrate her (besides, the kids insist on a cake!). Here's a little glimpse into our celebration of our Keren-girl.

Keren's Memorial Brunch

One year ago, on January 28, 2009, our Keren made her Heaven-debut. As the first anniversary of that day approached this year, we wanted to remember the wonder of our girl, and spend time with those who loved her, rather than dwell on our grief. Here's a glimpse into the occasion thanks to photos from my dad, Dave Givens; you can see that it was a time of joy. Keren would have loved it! Thanks to all who were able to join us and make the day special; and for those who couldn't come...we're thinking we'll just have to make another excuse to get together again!

2009 July Greenfield Village fun

On the 16th Clare, Evvie and I got to go to Greenfield Village with friends Laura, Gabe and Gracie. Clare remembered a lot from our trip last year, and earlier this month we got to go for an evening concert and fireworks, so it's becoming a great favorite. It was special this year as it was kind of a birthday gift for Clare and Gabe who both had their fourth birthday on the 17th!

Day at Pontiac Lake

We had so much fun at a family reunion on Pontiac Lake end of July. The girls enjoy the water (or eventually do once Kraig gets them in it for a bit!) and this year we got to finish the day with a relaxing ride in a pontoon boat. It was so relaxing, Evelyn fell asleep and slept for most of the ride!

Summer Days

Fun and family are part of the days this summer. We're missing Grammy and Poppa G and the aunts, uncle and cousin on that side of the family, but we're making up for it with lots of time with Grandma and Grandpa W and aunts, uncles and cousins on Kraig's side of the family. The girls are getting so big and doing so much--God continues to teach us in so many ways! We're so thankful for these days.

Clare's Third Birthday

Last week we celebrated Clare's third birthday. We had the "little party" on her actual birthdate, and the "big party" with family a few days later. Clare was more than thrilled with all of the attention, and of course, the presents! She's still talking about the excitement :)

A Day At Greenfield Village

Saturday we got to go to Greenfield Village for the first time as a family. The girls had a great time, and they were real troopers even though Keren preferred the rainy, cooler afternoon to the warm sunny morning. All three girls loved the carousel, but the highlight for Clare was the "choo-coo train." Kraig and I haven't been there in a while, so it was fun to refresh good memories. I think we'll be back soon!

Trent Ct.-Progress report

Trent Ct. has been ours for almost two weeks now and things are progressing.... Right now it actually looks worse than it did because we're in the throes of painting--the primer is on most of the walls, and one coat of paint is on in the girls' room. It's hard to believe, looking at it now, that we're rapidly nearing completion--but we are! Meanwhile on the Alleghany front, my mom has been able to help for two days of packing. Stuff, stuff everywhere.... Not fun! The girls are enjoying the new house, but they're also out of sorts because of the upheaval. Ah well! It's not forever :) .

Trent Ct.-Our New Home!

Last Friday we closed on our new home...and now the REAL work begins! It was bank-owned, and during that time the bank had it they had to do some clean-up that required tearing out the main floor carpet and the drywall in the front corner bedroom. While that makes it more work for us, it is fun to plan it all ourselves...plus we probably couldn't have got it for the price we had if it had been all set to go! We're so thankful for how God has worked out so many details with this house! The layout is flat and open that will be great with Keren and her equipment. The basement is completely unfinished which is something Kraig is looking forward to. And there are LOTS of big windows that I love--great light!!! On top of all these things, the house is only about a half mile from where we are currently, so we'll still be close to family and friends!

May days

Now that spring is here, we're enjoying our yard and the gorgeous weather. Kraig recently built a swingset for the girls, and all of us have been enjoying that. We also got a sandbox which promises more fun (though Kraig would like to build elaborate sandcastles, and Clarissa much prefers knocking them down). And in the midst of this, we're all getting to know our little Evelyn.

Announcing...

We were thrilled to welcome "Evelyn Ruth" to our family on Thursday, April 26, 2007. She weighed in at 8 lbs., 11.3 oz., and measured 21 inches in length. She also has a thick head of dark-brown hair and bright eyes to check out the world! Big sister Keren hasn't put in her vote quite yet as to whether we should keep her--babies are a little unpredictable, after all. Big sister Clarissa, on the other hand, is excited that we have brought her her very own baby, who reacts when she kisses her!
