This was my grandmother's rocker. I'm guessing it is between 90 and 100 years old. My dad was born in 1918 and I assume that she had it when he was born. It was all together, but a bit wobbly and the finish was very poor. This is after I had taken it apart and began to strip and sand it.
Mostly stripped and sanded. I had the chair for over 25 years before I got around to tackling it.
The rocker's were quite worn. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, but not extremely hard.
I added some hickory to round it out. Since it is near the floor, it isn't real visible, and I figured the hickory would last longer.
Seat stripped and sanded.
It had some nice wood grain under neath the glaze that was originally on it.
Closer look at the seat.
Closer look at the wood grain on the back slats.
Nice grain pattern on the back of the chair.
Finished product.
