Side bar is moveable, in a dovetailed slot, so it can be moved closer to the paper towel roll.

Another version that I built for a friend's birthday.
I added a spring to this version to pull the bar next to the paper towel.
The angled strip towards the bottom was a design change after the saw caught it and kicked it into my stomach. It left quite a bruise!
