Sunset in El Calafate on our first night. This was probably about 10:00pm.
A view of Lago Argentino as we head to the dock for a day on a catamaran
On our way to the catamaran, Jeff's wondering, "How many photos will I take today? 1000? 2000? Who knows?"
We were in the VIP section of the catamaran which early on stood for Very Isolated Person
Lago Argentino is the largest freshwater lake in Argentina. It was such an amazing blue color.
ICEBERG, RIGHT AHEAD - First one I've ever seen
The further we rode, the bigger they got
See, pretty big
Upsala Glacier in the distance - One of the largest glaciers in South America, it is unfortunately most well known for its rapid retreat.
A field of icebergs
Jeff doing his thing
Mugging for the camera
One of the more interesting icebergs
Might as well pose in front of it
Runoff trickles down from the melting glacier into the lake
Runoff from the melting glaciers
Spegazzini Glacier
Hanging out in front of the Spegazzini Glacier
Jeff wasn't really in this one so I photoshopped him in
Damn, Jeff is cool
I'm somewhat skeptic this was really part of a glacier
But I posed with it just in case
The runoff made for some small waterfalls
More blue water as we move on to the Perito Moreno Glacier
Yay Argentina!
The North Face of the Perito Moreno Glacier from afar
The iceberg probably runs about 2-3 times the height of that catamaran
Dare you to take a kayak in there
Perito Moreno - We moved a bit closer to appreciate its size
Sunset on our 2nd night in El Calafate. Not as impressive as the first but a great view nonetheless.
Day 2 - We made our way to the south face of Perito Moreno for some glacier hiking.
We lucked out with another gorgeous day
Several guides await as we pull into the dock
Ah perspective. Those black dots in the middle are people.
Sizeable waves can form from ice breaking off of the glacier and into the lake
Crampons
Thumbs up from Jeff for glacier hiking
Pretty incredible
More thumbs up
We were excited
I found the odd poses people were into on the glacier to be amusing. This lucky shot taken over my shoulder.
Yes! This is all mine!
King of the Glacier!
The blues on the glacier were amazing. (Ice pick used only as a prop.)
No ice pick for Jeff
Jeff stops for a drink. The water is suprisingly clean.
A complimentary glass of whiskey met us at the end of the trail.
With ice carved right off the glacier.
The boat bringing us home struggling to get into the dock thanks to the icebergs in the water.
My favorite warning sign of the trip. This guy is bugging out.
Another view of the North Face of Perito Moreno. It really is massive.
Looking back at Lago Argentino - Our final view of Patagonia
