We arrived in Salvador pretty late in the evening and stopped here for dinner
Pelourinho, the old city, is filled with cobblestone streets and buildings that nestle right up to the road. It's all foot traffic in this part of town.
Restaurant J&K - Great live music outside on our first night there.
Our standard breakfast in Salvador... Eggs, ham, cheese, toast, fruit and coffee
Our hotel in Salvador. That's Jeff in front about to meet Ronaldo, our tour guide for Day 1.
Porto da Barra Beach - A beach in Salvador off All Saints Bay
We stopped for a tour of Farol da Barra - A lighthouse/fort at the southern tip of the penninsula
View of All Saints Bay from the Fort
Entrance to the fort
The date on this guy is 1649
At the base of the lighthouse
Looking East towards the Atlantic Ocean
Jeff taking photos through a porthole
Salvador has slums very similar to Rio however they are called communidades (I think) instead of Favelas and are not as crime-ridden as Rio's.
Estádio Octávio Mangabeira - Home of Esporte Clube Bahia
Dique do Tororó
Pelourinho - The old city
An artist on the streets of Pelourinho - Nothing too special as these paintings are a dime a dozen in Salvador
A Pelourinho street during the day
Pelourinho Square
Cathedral of Salvador: Former Jesuit church of the city, built in the second half of the 17th century.
I forget what these are called. They smelled bad.
Broken Crosses near the bay
The famous Lacerda Elevator that takes you to the lower city of Salvador
The Mercado Modelo in the foreground with Fort of Nossa Senhora do Pópulo and São Marcelo in the water just behind it.
Convent and Church of São Francisco
Inside São Francisco Church - One of the most ornate chruches I have visited. My photos do not do it justice.
Ships docked on All Saints Bay
Sunset on our first full day in Salvador
Jeff catching up with Anthony via Skype
View from outside our room. The streets stay active until near midnight.
Since it is so hot, all beers come in large koozies.
Day 2 of the Salvador leg included a day trip to Morro de São Paulo
One of Morro de São Paulo's many beaches along the Atlantic Ocean
The lagoon at low tide. Nearly all of the coral disappeared when the tide rolled in.
Jeff stopped for a pose
As did I
That's right. My name sounds like "Dog" in South America.
Looking back at the beach from the lagoon
Jeff braved the lagoon with his laptop and all of his camera gear
View of the Atlantic Ocean from the lagoon
Waves come rolling in
Our view of the ocean from our lunch spot
Jeff enjoys more Açaí before we head back
Same spot as in the morning. The coral is almost completely hidden as the tide rolls in.
Beautiful weather for the day
Back in Salvador... Michael Jackson visited the city many years ago. He's quite popular there. (As is Barrack)
A performance by Olodum, a cultural group based in Salvador
Caipirinha - Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça, sugar and limes. Very similar to a Mojito.
