Downtown friendly retail formats, facades and signs.
Drugstores, supermarkets, banks and fast food operations often pose the biggest challenges with windowless walls, windows without merchandise, curb-cuts, in-front parking lots, etc. But many retailers have facades that are attractive, properly scaled and reinforce pedestrian activity. Even some of retailing biggest miscreants have stores that are downtown friendly.
Most chains have several facade templates, giving developers and landlords a fair amount of latitude in what they want to build. If a developer or landlord says that the retail chain will only accept the submitted facade design, they are usually lying through their teeth. A little research will probably reveal other designs -- as, hopefully, the photos in this album demonstrate.
