Our plane waiting at Narita Airport
Tanji reading the “Chikyu no Arukikata”, a very famous and complete series of japanese guide books.
Air Canada has electric outlets in every one of their chairs, even in Economic Class and domestic flights. Isn't it cool?
Welcome to Montreal! Says the moon from behind the clouds.
My bedroom. The student dormitory had all single rooms with double beds two blocks away from the booze and music of the Jazz Festival. I think this is some sort of message from SIGEVO to its student members.
First Rainy day, First rainy Colonial Houses
Metro station
Train is coming - it uses wheels, not tracks.
Art... :-P
Notice the Subway by the “Artist Street” - there were Subways EVERYWHERE
Charming sidestreet
Finally, I remember to fix the White balance! Sorry!
Very cool Medieval Store at St. Paul Street.
Also St. Paul Street, Yanase found this store, with all kinds of Maple Syrup products.
Cathedral of Notre Dame
Close up
Giant Organ in the Cathedral of Notre Dame
Gothic Altar in Notre Dame
Horse pulled carts circled the streets of old montreal. Notice the driver is a young lady.
This obelisk has the name of the first europeans to colonize Canada. When we were looking at it, an old lady showed up out of nowhere to tell us that one of the names in the obelisk was of an antecessor of Hillary Clinton.
Poutine! Didn't eat that much of it. French fries with cheese topping.
Yanase and Tanji
St. Deniz Street - a place lined with trendy bars and nice shops.
Another view of Rue St. Deniz
Interesting house approaches
A Vinyl Store!
No idea what this biulding was - it was locked
These kind of houses were reasonably common in Montreal. I wonder what is inside the small tower.
There are 4 squirrels in that middle tree.
GECCO 2009 Student Party. About 0.6 Women per table :-P
Jeff, Omid and Yanase
Gecco Poster Session (Sunny Choi unwittingly in the first plane)
The poster sessions are easily one of my preffered parts in the conference - you get to talk to almost everyone in a short period of time.
Camelia Trying to get us to pose for a picture
(Part of the) Jazz Festival - Salsa and Brazilian music here too!
Walking around old town on a sunny Friday
Walking around old town on a sunny friday
Walking Around Old Town on a Sunny Friday
Yeah, this is more like it - Canada in the summer! All kinds of artists performing in this street
Something to like in Montreal - Old buildings and Skyscrapers!
St. Catherine Street
As I walk around this town, I just can't stop taking pictures...
Dinner with Japanese attendants of Gecco + Stefan, after a failed constraint optimization problem
Underground ways - they go all around the centre of the town
Inside the conference grounds, an Alcohol measuring machine. Quite appropriate!
Omid, Gahda and Me (That is a knife that I'm holding on Gahda's back, yes)
GECCO Coffee Break - Lots of sweet food.
Keynote Speech on computer animation - It was quite fun, although very awkward chuckles rounded the room when the speaker put up the “Strip Fight” clip from Animatrix
GECCO Birthday Party
Otavio, Hassan, Verena, Me and Marcus on the GECCO Birthday Party
Those residences supposedly were built by some famous architect, who wanted to prove an artistic point.
More GECCO birthday party
Montreal Skyline
The party was nice, but the drinks were too expesive
These Guys were quite awesome
Cool pair of hands by candles which were lit on all tables.
Birthday Cake - 10 years of GECCO
Nearby Fireworks Competition (Not Provided by SIGEVO)
It was really nice, me, Omid, Britta and Joey sat there telling very bad jokes
Britta, Omid, Me, Joey, Mark and Verena - leaving the party for the “nijikai”
Montreal's Subway!
“Gecco Dinner” at a chinese restaurant (We were told there was a GECCO hosted dinner here, but we were the only ones there)
Bonus stage: Geocaching - Where am I?
Lost in the forest
Geocaching is a cool hobby - made me see montreal from a very different perspective
University of Montreal (of Quebec?) - An interior view
Trying to find a way inside the Cemetery
Inside the Notre Dame of the Clouds Cemetery
All the tombs had addresses - I wonder if I could send them a letter...
“The Strongest Voice” - we had to find the tombs of famous people in Montreal's story, sum their death dates, and use that to calculate the final GPS of the Cache - the cemetery had a closing time, so we were kinda running against time.
View from Mont Royal
Very lost inside the Mont Royal Park, looking for clues before losing visibility.
