Members and friends of Lions posed for a group photo in front of Limbang Methodist Church before leaving for Long Sebayang
Dinner was being prepared by a team consisting of the chef Tie Heng Siew, food adviser Wong Liong Ing, Sia Hock Hee, Jannet Lim & Jennifer Tiong. Each person was limited to one box of dinner containing Bario rice, mixed vegetables & chicken only for the dinner! It was a real economy!
Members only sat to eat the delicious dinner without table!
FELLOWSHIP HOURS! The delicious BBQ of chicken wings and porks marinated by OC finally made everyone full and satisfied. The fellowship was great though it rained quite heavily. Tigers and Green Label had made most people warm and happy throughout the night. It was a real fantastic night with chit-chatting, singing and dancing!
Dr Katherine Kong, the Head of Dental Department in Limbang Health Office and Dr. Lee S Wei of NCLC Miri Resort City together treated a total of 45 patients all by extraction of teeth. This elite dental team of 5 members has traveled with Lions Clubs on many occasions over the last 4 years.
The medications ranging from antibiotics to painkillers were brought in from Dr. Mark Tan’s own clinic. The simple dispensary was assisted by two of his capable nurses. All the patients were given medications. Children were also given multivitamins and some given the de-worming tablets. A total of 12,000 paracetamol tablets were brought there. Many were left to the camp for future use, some also given to Pa Adang village.
About 80 cartons of clothes and pants were first taken to the camp over a period of 2 weeks prior to our arrival. There was no limit for the Penans to take these items home!
SERIOUS STUFF BEGAN… A total of 128 patients were seen by Dr. Mark Tan who was also the organizing chairman of this project on 7.9.08. He spent 5 & ½ hours from 8 am till 1.30pm to see all the 128 patients. He was assisted happily by Lion Veronica of NCLC Miri Resort City who registered and called patients in. The medical problems were generally not severe; most of the complaints were mild musculo-skeletal pain, gastritis, upper respiratory infections among the children and skin infections
President Jennifer Tiong of Miri Central LC provided an excellent haircutting service to more than 15 persons mainly males during this project. She is perfect and professional!
Participants posed for a group photo with DG Sim before giving away the donations. Among the items donated were sago flour, biscuits, drinking water containers, vacuum flasks, toys, milk powder, cereals, stationery, clothing, shoes and bags.
The official handing over of an iron bar rice mill costing RM2500 by DG BC Sim to Pastor Tom of SIB Church in Pa Adang (another 4 hours drive plus walking from Long Sebayang camp). Pastor Tom has contributed a great deal to the Penan community over these years in many aspects. Hopefully another project of this kind will be organized over there in the near future.
Dr. Lee S Wei currently attached to Dental Department, Miri Hospital was extracting a tooth on one of the Penan patients while Dr Katherine Kong looked on. It was a simple dental set up with no much privacy but the professionalism of each team member has put everything in place in order to serve the best.
