Scythe Blade Care
Some quick, perhaps artistic, images of my "peening" setup. This is where I maintain the edge, or scondary bevel rather, of my scythe blades.
The hammer and anvil are what are used to peen the blade.
The sharpening stone in the images is in this case a coarse artificial stone, which is actually not used in this process, however is shown for a bit of extra impression. I used it once for a scythe blade recently, in this case on the short gold coloured blade, just to get the edge a little keener, well a lot actually, since the peen was not that good, it seems. The cut I got from that blade gave quite poor results. So rather than re-peen the blade I cheated and did a quick once over with the coarse stone, it made a noticable difference.
More soon. Any comments?
