My friend Laura and I found this adorable snapper baby in a local lake during lunch last week. He was swimming gamely in the lake, but looked itred to me, so I scooped him out for a rest and a photo shoot.
He spent the first 20 minutes pretending that he was NOT edible. This consisted of keeping his eyes tightly closed and not moving. I guess he figured that if he couldn't see us, maybe we couldn't see him.
He was teeny!
Really teeny! That's Laura's ring next to him, and she has small hands :)
Side view. Eyes finally open!
Me and my turtle bud. He is still hoping not to be recognized as food at this point. Silly turtle - as Laura pointed out "He should be glad he's been captured by 40-year old women and not teenaged boys."
Just be glad I am not sharing -all- the pics we took!
I think you can see a (small) lesion on his tail in this shot.
While shooting the turtle, we met a lively jumping spider and took a few pics.
Another spider pic.
Oooh! He moved!
Here he is making a break for it!
Release time: we let him go in a small creek that empties inot the lake rather than the lake itself. I figured he needed some more cover and foraging opportunities.
Bye-bye.
Neither turtle nor spider, this is a my friend Laura, who obligingly helped pose many of the turtle pics.
