This is the overlook at Cerre Lambaré ... it is a beautiful view of the city of Asunción as well as Argentina
Another view of the hill... by the way, we didn´t take a picture of this but it is quite a little hike up to the top of this overlook.
The monument at the cerre... unfortuantely all of the plaques were stolen so we are not completely sure who all of the figures are supposed to represent
Overlook view
Overlook
The hill also overlooks a very poor section of Asunción, many of the people use the river as a bathroom, shower, and source of water. The houses are very small and built out of metal, plastic, and whatever else can be found. One of the families in one of our churches lives in this village with her husband and 8 children.
Another overlook of the poor village... it is rather interesting to see on one side of the hill a gorgeous overlook of the city and on the backside a peek into what life is like for many of the poor of Asunción.
View of the surrounding country and city
Gorgeous flowers are to be found everywhere
The monument at the top of the hill
At the top of the monument is the Indian chief who is said to have conquered Lambaré.
Kris, trying to figure out why we dragged him to the top of this hill, probably the highest point in the city, when a thunderstorm appeared to be coming
Trying to get a little more exercise... like we hadn´t already walked enough that day
This plant is all over the city, particularly in front of people´s gates because the flower is beautfiul but the stem is quite dangerous... the poky thorns hurt quite a bit.
One of the statues on the side of the monument
After we got home from the hill, we decided to introduce Kris to terere... after a few rounds though I ran out of water in my cooler, so I had to switch to the nalgene... pretty funny
Sarah drinking terere
Kris trying to figure out what in the world he was drinking...
Our trip to the all you can eat meat, churresquerria, Paulista. They have some of the best meat that I have ever eaten... unfortuantely all the different cuts have their own names and most of the time we didn´t know exactly what we were eating.
Sarah with desserts... they also have an amazing dessert bar
Kris with desserts
And for some reason, another picture of Kris eating dessert. I think Ted must have had the camera.
Ted with his "cafesita"... here if they want to make something little they just add "ita" to the end... it can get pretty funny
Kris on the bus... we spent a lot of time on the bus... you can ask Kris about those adventures, I´m pretty sure there were a couple of times that he almost didn´t make it on or off
The beach in San Bernadino, because tourist season hasn´t started yet there wasn´t anyone there at all.. it was pretty nice.
pretty trees at the beach
View of the water
Looking at the huge hotels that are on the beach in San Bernadino, they apparently fill up sometime after Christmas here while everyone is on summer vacation.
I really enjoy the trees and flowers here... this is another to add to teh collection
You could rent boats of different sizes, but they didn´t seem to be open while we were there.
Monument that is in the center of a park in downtown San Bernadino, apparently it is a sculpture of the person who founded San Bernadino.
This park was built for Paraguay as some sort of gift from Germany, so here we have a little sign with both the flags.... odd...
The streets of San Bernadino were practically empty... a lot of people have summer houses there and they haven´t moved into them yet.
This is downtown, a view from across the street of the presidential palace, kind of like their version of the white house, except the dude doesn´t live there.
Sarah waiting for everybody else ... it was quite a hot day, I don´t even know how much water we went through that day
Another view
Yet another view (in ted´s defence, it was a nice building...)
Downtown Asunción
Ted and Kris examining the stuffed animals at the natural history museum in the Jardín Botanico
Some of the animals were really well done, others not so much
this sign does NOT say billy the bigmouth bass
They also had a whole wall just full of different kids of snakes, they even had some with the animals that they had recently eaten before being killed, super gross.
They also had a wall of abnormal animals, which Ted and Kris absolutely loved. This is of a two headed something or other.
This is something like a fox, we think, which shows all of its unborn babies inside of her and she is holding open her body so that you can see the unborn babies... SUPER freaky...
more abnormal animals
We were too late to make it into the zoo, but we were able to view a bunch of animals from outside the gate, this is a goat and her little baby. It was way too cute to not take a picture.
The woods that surround the zoo and jardín botanico... these particular woods were fenced off, so we were pretty sure that there must be something living in there.
Toucans
Toucans... paraguay has a lot of really beautiful native birds
Owls..
View of Asunción from the park
Better view of Asunción from the Jardín Botanico
Sitting on the sidewalk after our hour and a half long bus ride from the Jardín to the church in Lambare... we were all feeling a little light headed so we bought a coke, got 3 straws, and devoured a pack of crackers before church.
mmm.. coke and crakers...
Sarah making a pie for Thanksgiving dinner (it was an awesome pie!)
Another picture of the dining room table covered in flour.. thanks to Ted´s cinnamon rolls and Sarah´s pie making
Thanksgiving dinner at the Carrs... just putting together the cornbread dressing
Larry carving the wonderful turkey
Our great turkey popped open... for some reason the legs weren´t able to stay very connected to the rest of the turkey
Larry admiring the beautiful Thanksgiving turkey
Our Thanksgiving feast, complete with Simba Guarana and Fanta Mandarina... both quite yummy
We are waiting to eat.. but Ted keeps taking pictures, including one of Jan taking pictures of the food as well
Ted´s beautiful plate of food..
After lunch, Sarah took a grand Thanksgiving nap while everyone else played Phase 10 for 2 hours...
Ted had the camera.. so he continued to take more pictures of me sleeping.. who knows why?
Yet another picture.. there is nothing like a nap after a good Thanksgiving meal.. probably doesn´t help too much with digestion though.
