STEAMFEST THE WAY WE WERE

SteamFest was first held at Sheffield, Tasmania, in 1994 and it has been held ever since each year on Tasmania’s March long weekend. This year - 2011 - was again a wonderful success, and Steamfest is now an annual must visit on the calenders of all steam buffs and railway enthusiasts.

Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2011

Nothing quite like Hobart when the docks are full. Square riggers, steam launches, a miriad of yachts, fishing boats, dinghys at the cutting edge of the shipwrights art, buskers, sea shanties, the best seafood, and more maritime heritage than you can poke a stick at. And it happens once every two years in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Who let the dogs out folks?

CURLIP

Paddle Steamer Curlip II is a replica of an historic paddle steamer of the Snowy River, in Far East Gippsland, Victoria. A community project, her construction has utilized the traditional skills of wooden boat builders, and thousands of hours of volunteer labour. The Curlip will operate as a cruise vessel on the Snowy River Estuary exploring the natural and cultural heritage of this hidden gem of south east Australia. She is moored at Marlo at the mouth of the Snowy River, Victoria.

Harry Redford Cattle Drive 2007/08

The Aramac Shire Council (deceased) conduct the Harry Redford Cattle Drive each year. The role of overseer since 2010 is now conducted by the Barcaldine Shire Coucil. A committee and band of helpers give guests the opportunity to experience the life of a drover in the unique area once roamed by Harry Redford (aka Captain Starlight); Lake Dunn, Aramac, Muttaburra, and Bowen Downs. This album is a selection of pictures from 2007 and 2008; to capture the sounds, the silence, the food, the friendship, the peace, the atmosphere of the camp fire under the stars, you just have to be there. Spend a day, or three weeks; an experience never to be forgotten. The drover's life has pleasures the town folk never know ... Copyright B.H.Ph

Sheffield The Town of Murals

When you head south from Devonport on your way to Cradle Mountain the road takes you through Kentish Plains to Sheffield, at the foot of Mount Roland; and it is here you will find Australia's Premium Outdoor Art Gallery. This selection of paintings depicting life and history of the region has been an ongoing creation since the early 1980's. Each year various artists are invited to Muralfest, where further paintings are added to the collection. A Little Town That Did; not to be missed. And don't forget Steamfest at Redwater Creek Steam Railway every March long weekend. Then you can move on to Cradle Mountain, if you can drag yourself away. from Tasmazia and Lower Crackpot, another unique attraction. Call in to the Information Centre for more information. Drive carefully now.

This young lady won a photo shoot in Fashion Fantasia (see Album). She was a bit shy and nervous, so went out 'to get a suntan'. In fact her face was badly burnt, with much skin peeling. Time was short, this is the result, thank goodness for photoshop.
