Seabeck Haiku Getaway 2012
Haiku Northwest held its fifth annual Seabeck Haiku Getaway from October 11 to 14, 2012, at the Seabeck Conference Center in Seabeck, Washington. Michael Dylan Welch and Tanya McDonald directed the retreat, and our featured speaker was Paul Miller, currently treasurer for the Haiku Society of America and incoming editor of Modern Haiku magazine. We enjoyed other presentations and activities led by Johnny Baranski, Terri L. French, Barry George, Cara Holman, Dejah Léger, Tanya McDonald, Margaret McGee, Carole MacRury, Annette Makino, Jim Swift, Angela Terry, and Michael Dylan Welch, among others. One particular highlight was a craft workshop led by Fumiko Kimura and Frank Kawasaki, who taught us the art of sumi-e (brush painting), with much assistance from the Puget Sound Sumi Artists.
