The Katholikon of Sveti Bogorodica (Mother of God). The Church is as humble from the outside as amazingly covered with divine frescoes inside. Unfortunately the Church is seriously damaged, and kept alive by the help of Father Kalist and the Pilgrims. Much help is anyway needed. The Church has been listed in 2004 in the List of Top 100 Endangered world sites by the World Monuments Watch / Il Katholikon di Sveti Bogorodica (Madre di Dio). La Chiesa e' tanto modesta esteriormente quanto incredibilmente rivestita da divini affreschi al suo interno. Sfortunatamente la Chiesa e' seriamente danneggiata, e mantenuta in piedi dal grande aiuto di Padre Kalist e dai Pellegrini. C'e' pero' ancora bisogno di molto aiuto. La Chiesa e' stata inserita nel 2004 nella lista dei 100 monumenti mondiali piu' a rischio dal World Monuments Watch
The Monastery was hosting up to 400 monks until 16th century, when a violent Ottoman massacre exterminated them all, leaving the place deserted for years to come. According to local history, the bloodshed was ordered by Mara, the Macedonian wife of the Sultan, a woman so beautiful that was allowed to keep her Orthodox faith. At her arrival in Treskavec she asked to receive the holy Eucaresty, an act refused by the Abbot of the Monastery, that had therefore to witness the cruel answer of the ruler / Fino al XVI secolo il Monastero ospitava fino a 400 monaci, finche' gli Ottomani sterminarono tutti gli abitanti, lasciando il posto disabitato nei secoli a venire. Secondo la storia locale, il massacro fu ordinato da Mara, moglie Macedone del Sultano, che le concesse per la sua straordinaria bellezza di mantenere la sua fede. All'arrivo a Treskavec, Mara pretese che le venisse data l'Eucarestia, un atto che l'Abate del Monastero rifiuto' di concederle, andando cosi' incontro allo sterminio dell'intera comunita'
