Currently the only thing identifying the museum at the front entrance. Hopefully to be replaced by something a bit more distinguished.
Beautifully restored building originally housed an army barracks.
Do not attempt to adjust your monitor! The building site is on a gentle slope.
Note no line 10 minutes before opening. The timed entry is nice in that it allows for leisurely viewing and no huge throngs crowding you.
View from the side walkway of the museum looking toward the admin/special exhibits building. Note the platform under construction on the left.
The museum proper is the large building on the bottom.
View from the back emergency exit of the main building. The fog obscured the view of the Golden Gate Bridge at 10am but it was clear and beautiful a couple hours later.
This tent was under construction for the upcoming opening ceremonies/events/gala. By the time we finished our visit the uprights were already in place.
Big tent.
The admin building. Nothing to see here (yet.)
Except the killer view. (Fog notwithstanding.)
View from the admin building to the rear of the museum.
This glass paneling lines the length of Gallery 8: Walt + The Natural World on the second floor. It's designed so that can't help but take in the scenery outside (the bridge) while you view the exhibit.
