August 2011 - Trip to Europe

Took the whole family to The Netherlands for the first time. Taking a 1 year old and 2 year old on an 11 hour plane ride is quite the experience. Once there we had a fantastic time with grandparents, uncles and aunts and 6 cousins! As a major bonus Teresa and Dam got to travel through Europe, to Berlin and Prague, for 6 days without the kids.

Oma in California

Oma is enjoying the hard life we live in California. It has been amazing having her help us during the first weeks after the birth of baby Ally. Fuelled by glasses of white wine, trips to the wild animal park and hanging out at the pool it sounds like she is enjoying her stay as much as we are enjoying it!

Ally Simone Backer

Ally Simone Backer was born on Saturday 8-23-2008 at 6:51am in La Jolla, California. She is healthy, happy and beautiful. Mom and baby are doing great and enjoying their well deserved rest. Her brother Bart was very excited to see Ally, almost as excited as being able to play with his own toys again after a few wonderful nights at the Isaacson's.

Bart's Hobbies

Here is Bart showing off some of his latest hobbies. He is a computer wiz, plays the piano and loves singing. All before the age of 3. He is very much in to Thomas the Tank Engine. You can see him turn on the computer, log in and launch a YouTube clip of Harold the Helicopter by double-clicking the webbrowser (he prefers Firefox).

Trip To Tokyo

Short week business trip to Tokyo. Mostly work, but a little free time on the side to explore the immense city center of Tokyo. We where pretty lucky with the weather since it was dry, but also hot (85f, 30c) and very humid. We got to explore a few districts in the center of Tokyo. We enjoyed great food and wonderful hospitality at a fancy business hotel. We where very lucky to be in the expert hands of our colleague Hiroaki Higashiyama (Hiro). Besides some of the obvious tourist areas he showed us some regular hangout spots. The Japanese are extremely courteous. Cellphones are everywhere and are used while on the subway, exept not to make calls. Talking (out loud) on your cellphone in the subway is considered extremely rude, so this is on the “not done” list. *cough* wish this would be considered at home *cough*.
