Maxville Manor Nov 2011
We always have a great time playing at Maxville Manor! A one hour concert in the Town Square followed by a ceilidh/jam session is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon for musicians and audience alike. We were pleased that Alan MacPhail was able to join us for some tunes. One of the pieces performed during the concert was composed by him, we learned it from a cassette recording of his playing accompanied by his daughter Alana who played fiddle with us at the concert. It was also nice to have some of the Glengarry fiddlers join us.

OCBS frequently plays for concerts at various local retirement and nursing homes on Sundays. The group has become so popular in the retirment living community that we are always booked months in advance! It is a favourite place to play for the group - the feeling that you get when your music really inspires people is quite a joy. We ususally have a few dancers get up and try some jig steps with their walkers but at Lynwood Park Lodge they have a big crew of non-stop dancers. It took about 45 seconds into the first set before they were up and dancing and not a single set went by without at least a few on the dance floor. Angus (with a blue vest) managed to dance for the entire one hour concert - although he wore out quite a few partners in the process including OCBS's Beth MacGillivray. It also happened to be Halloween the day of the concert - don't worry - I am sure that they don't dress like that every day!

OCBS was asked to host an 'impromptu' session to provide background and feature music for the filming of a BBC documentary series on Scottish culture in Canada. Strangely it was a return to our roots for the Session as the Highlander Pub where the filming took place was the first location the Cape Breton Session appeared in, prior to our move to the Royal Oak. Not only did our musicians rock the place but we had a huge crowd of supporters to provide hoots and hollers and foot stamping at all the right times. The series will be broadcast in the UK in Spring 2011, not sure when we'll ever get to see it ourselves.
