Not 10 steps from the car (these are Dan's words), we're climbing straight up.
I didn't take many photos on the steep west approach because I was busy trying to keep up.
More ascent; Dan leads. My yellow pack should be visible to helicopter rescuers...where is Harrison Ford? I am feeling whoosy.
The upper ridge meadows where the climb mellows out. Looking over to Alaska Basin.
Zoomed view. It had sprinkled on us before we reached this point. Mosquitos out in force.
This is the area where the bc skiers like to come up and play.
The Middle and South Teton peak over at us. The table comes into view left of the Grand.
Making sure Margo is still there.
More Alaska Basin views.
The Grand begining to loom behind the Table.
Battleship Mountain...hum...that might make my to-do list.
Usually I am taking all the photos and rarely in them...so we made a photo stop just for me.
Snack break looking into the north headwall area and our eventual route down.
Another view of our canyon descent. See the faint trail through the green meadow?
We head up to the table...with probably 50 other people who do it throughout the day.
Dan is up ahead in the yellow hat. He lead the whole ascent.
Heading up the final pitch.
Dan working through the summit block ramp.
Dan makes the summit first of our group. It took us 3 hours. Dan's never done it that fast...it's been many, many years since I've done it that fast.
Dave heads up the summit block. I have pack envy...he has Mountain Hardware; I have serviceable and quite old North Face; Dan trumps me with, I suspect even older (if his ski boots are any indication), Jantzen.
Margo follows...hair blowin all over.
Dave photo-documenting.
The photo Dave is taking...close up of the Grand's west face.
The main view this climb is famous for.
Panning left: Mt Owen and the Grand to the right; looking into Cascade Canyon.
Looking toward Moran.
Mary's Nipple (heh, I didn't name it) and Grand Targhee, where the festival is going on, viewer's left far mid-ground.
Dan's photo of Dave and me, and a bunch of others, on the summit. (l-r) Mt. Owen, Grand Teton, Middle Teton, South Teton.
The boys on the summit. Could thumb wrestling be next?
Dan's first Splattski, but he doesn't get the mountains.
This time he gets the South Teton, but we really need the Grand.
Dan finally nails a Splattski.
The successful summit party. Dan's 5th, my 6th, and Dave's 1st time up. This climb's a classic.
My new screen saver. I've climbed all those and a few not in the photo!
Panning slight right: Better view of the Middle and South Tetons.
Cute kids. I couldn't help but hijack their photo op.
Dave, his thoughts, and his pack.
Dave and the South Teton.
Dan standing in the National Park without paying his entrance fee.....TRESPASS!!!!
My Summit Girl Moment: Joy - You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12.
The view to Moran on the descent.
Dan leading out on the ridge.
Looking at the descent trail and the nice cornice still holding the wall.
Looking back at the table and the Tetons.
Dan feeding Dave snowballs; Dave eating snowballs. These are symptoms of hypoxia.
Dan (and his snowball).
The boys, with their snowballs, lead out. If they knew I was writing these captions they would have thrown those at me.
Another view of the Table, Owen, Grand and South Teton, and the north wall on our way out.
Switchbacks and snowfields.
The water raging from the snowmelt. We made a couple interesting crossings. The guys made sure I didn't fall and rebreak my ribs or drown. Sorry there's no photos of that. I don't do water so well. I am sure my claws were out.
