Lunch room gary sheet & tin mill March 15th 1985.When I 1st came to the ``J`` as a switchman in 1968 we used the basement of the tinmill scale house and there were big poker games down there...Vince Falcetta & Harry Goldman along with others had the big ``J`` poker game at 418 tyler streeet in gary indiana and all smokes,drinks and sandwiches were free and i seen guys with wives and kids go there and lose their whole paycheck.

The 900 class engines were custom made for the E.J.& E. and had 2 big diesel engines and were very powerfull.

Here is the terminal building at kirk yard showing the hump engine and down where the sidewalk ends years ago was a green trailer where they had offices and computers,etc.
The CNN (bought the ``J``) closed down the hump in kirk yard in early 2010 and all the switching is now done by flatswitching in the various yards.
This area now has several computer terminals and the hump switches are lined via the computer and shown on the screen.There is a one man shelter on the hill where the pin puller is and the engine is controlled via radio by the forman who sits in front of a data terminal just inside.My my my how this has changed.

This is the ``J`` old steamer # 765 at gateway park in gary indiana.My father Peter Triantafilos helped lay/takeup the track for this.

These were aux power units called ``slugs`` which were powered by an engine coupled with it.These were filled with cement for weight and were used a lot on the hump.

Subject: Hump Remote Control Unit #CC1 Location: Kirk Yard - Gary, IN Date: 4/?/2007 Notes: This unit was originally slug T-6, which had the form of an actual EMD 'Calf'. It was rebuilt into the very unique looking "CC1" around 10/05. The rebuilt unit was designed to be used for the hump and yard work.

Here is a view of the tin mill by 74r & 84 inch,Indiana OSHA cited U.S. Steel's Gary Works, for 380 violations from 1974 to 2003; 193 of them since 2000. During six visits in 2004, the agency found four violations at the plant.How many of you guys worked these jobs?
