Part of the Westerly Creek drainage at Lowry will be distroyed by the shortsighted vote of the Denver City Council in favor of building another mini-shopping mall. Dolphin Discovery -- Isla Mujeres March 20, 2012

A fun day at Dolphin Discovery at Isla Mujeres. Many of the animals have been hurt or injured and could not survive in the wild. While contrived, this setting allows people to interact with dolphins, seals, shark, sting-ray and manatee -- hoping that all of us will be better for the interaction and more motivated to protect the ocean environment. What a great day!

An amazingly calm and beautiful late winter day on Guanella Pass -- approached from the north side from Naylor Reservoir to the summit -- a nice 7 mile snowshoe. And -- as an added bonus -- ptarmigan! I'm indebted to "ptarmigan spotters" from the Colorado Department of Wildlife. These photos are with my Canon SX 40 which is perfect for these conditions -- this camera has an astonishing 840 mm optical zoom.

I took a walk along the Dakota Hogback -- also known as Dinosaur Ridge (because of the many visibile fossils in the area) on a crisp February morning between snowstorms.

Fritz Eichenberg Engravings December 10, 2011

Fritz Eichenberg made wood cut engravings to illustrate novels. These are examples from Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. These date back to World War II -- when these novels were less than 100 years old and had already become literary classics. Eichenberg fled Nazi Germany in 1933 and became faculty at New York's New School.

Denver Art Museum November 19, 2011

This is a mesmerizing exhibit of Xu Beihong (1895-1953), an amazing Chinese artist who tried to meld the artistic traditions of East and West. It is paired with a Chinese royal silk exhibit of Cixi and the Royal Family just before the fall of the last Chinese dynasty (1911) ushering in the government of Sun-Yat-Sen. DAM will be the only exhibition location of Xu Beihong in the United States. These photos do not do justice to this fine art exhibit!

North of Vail is a little dirt road which is all torn up with construction and logging. 4WD is recommended. However, if you can stand the ride, you are well rewarded with glorious aspen in the Gore Range.
