Egypt Day 13 - Home

The trip finally come to an end. When I packed my stuff, I wish I could have borrow a biggest bag from Rain :-p or get another backpack from Li Ping. (one thing didn’t pack, I left my heart behind in Cairo) When check-in, they don’t allow me to check in 2 bag. So, I have 4 bags to hand carry (laptop bag, shoe bag, sheesha bag and another bag for my clothes, the luggage only pack souvenirs) luckily, Ban Swee lend another hand to help. I having Sakara beer at Hippoptamus while Ban Swee having some Irish Coffee with liquor or Kahlua. So bless that I got a windows seat to see a very beautiful desert view and red sea from the air. While transit at Dubai, get to see the tallest building in the world from Far. Met David French on the way back. He is Australian went back to attend his sister wedding. He work in one of the International School in Egypt teaching English, Math, Science and so on. He do offer “Couch Surfing” if you travel to Egypt or Australia.Got some nice sunrise view a

Egypt Day 12 - Khan el-Kalili

Last night at Cairo, I don’t want to but good bye to all of the lovely colleagues in Cairo Office. Then we went to Khan el-Kalili to do our final shopping….feel like want to buy whole Egypt back. Detour to HRC to get the merchandise for Diehard fan of Hard Rock Café. Ride on a crazy taxi who drive madly on the road. We still arrived Al-Hussain in 1 piece….phew! Nice and Delicious Egyptian food treat by Samir. Then hit Fishawy again. Fall in love in this place. Samir told us if you didn’t visit Fishawy in Cairo, you’re not consider visiting Egypt that kind of serious :-P if so, I told Samir I visit Egypt for the third time. I have my first henna on hand. It just for women. For me, it just fun.

Egypt Day 11 - Sound n Light

Kof Sharee as lunch. In the evening, we off to Sound and Light Show at the “actual” Pyramids of Giza. Highly recommended by Rain :-p It very freaking cold here, the wind can cut thus your face….but I still want to record the video to show you guys (see clips) and it take very long time to defrost my hand….hehe! After that, Ban Swee decided to buy the DVD version of Sound and Light Show. Thanks to Ban Swee

Egypt Day 10 - Cairo Tower

When miss the sunset photo shot, Samir told us the sunrise will rise on another direction. Another chance to see the sunrise, set the alarm to wake up at 6am but can’t really see the nice sun. time to bid farewell with the colleagues at Abbassa. I can’t help but too emo to say good bye. At night, we went to Cairo Tower and found that it abit too late to go up there and the sky is not clear to see the night scene. Suggest by local Egyptian, good time to visit Cairo Tower is at 4pm which you can see sunset, Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx and whole Cairo City. Give up on Cairo Tower, we went to find some performance on cruiser along the Nile rivers like belly dance or the keep-on-spinning-dance called “suri”???!! no idea. But most of the boats that we found are restaurant only. But this places really good for couple as this place is romantic. of course We both “ma lat lou” won’t go and dine here la….hehe! on the way back to Hotel, We went for a quick tour to Museum of Egyptian

Egypt Day 09 - Abbassa Sunset

On the way to Abbassa, encounter a lots of polices/armies on the road. Understand from Osama (driver), Egypt’s President - Mubarak is going to Airport welcome the Football team back from Angola after won the African Cup. Having a nice “rice” lunch with Wayne, David, Malcolm, Gamal and Ban Swee. (I been crave for rice) In the Evening, Samir bring me to see a very nice sunset at Abbassa, round orange color like egg yolk (unfortunately, I not manage to capture the beautiful sun as it set down too fast). Dr. Gamal told us, they’re harvesting the fish today. So, we have tilapia for dinner. A nice and big tilapia, 3 for each of us. (never eat so much fish at one meal) and learned the technique to drink wine from Wayne and David.

Egypt Day 08 - Culture Wheel

I and Ban Swee have Pizza in one of the restaurant at Brazil Street called Thomas. After dinner, we headed to Culture Wheel while the African Cup final between Egypt and Ghana is going on. We join in the fun and celebration after Egypt won the African Cup.

Egypt Day 07 - Citadel

Tour on my own. I read some travel route recommended by lonely planet, I tour Islamic Cairo. I first went to Citadel Mosque (they also called it Mohammad Ali Mosque) Inside Citadel Mosque have a police museum and military museum to show you all the history of war and fight. In old time, this Citadel Mosque also serve as military base to protect outsider invasion. In the afternoon, I went to Mosque of Ahmed Ibn Tulun (a very old mosque) then to Gayer Anderson House (which I found inside very spooky). Not sure I get addicted or I just like fishawy, I went there again for shai and sheesha before heading to Felucca ride on Nile river opposite four season hotel, then I go to Hard Rock Café for a drink, try the local beer called Sakara. I walked back to Flamenco Hotel when found the taxi fare is too expensive and they refuse to charge base on meter. (this is what happen when you take the taxi at nice hotel) It took me 1 hours + to walk back. In between, I stop by Cairo Opera House

Egypt Day 06 - Pyramids

A wonderful tour to Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx. I feel touch to see this huge structure build during Ancient time. speechless and wordless to describe the experience while standing there. Camhoring around Pyramids then visit the Cheops boat museum which the boat make to carry the big stone from others places to Giza. In the afternoon, we hit Egyptian Museum. Another must go places when visiting Egypt. The biggest collections of artifacts in Ancient Egypt. Some of the statues and craft still remain un-clear how they make it as the art work is really amazing. The discovery of Tutankhamum tomb is magnificient. Imagine how wealthy is Ancient Egypt when the Mask of Tutankhamun’s mummy is made by 11KG gold. I also visited the royal mummy. At night, go to the “real” Khan el-Kalili Bazaar to have Egyptian Food as Dinner. Shop around and buy many stuff here with local Egyptian price as I bring along 2 good Arabic price negotiator….hehe! We rest at well known Fishawy ahwa (coffee shop)

Egypt Day 05 - HRC

Continue work at Abbassa Office. Have “Kof sharee” (sound like) as lunch. It make of macaroni, some rice, spaghetti and source. On the way back, detour to downtown with Abdel before return back to Hotel. That night was semi final on African Cup, Egypt vs Algeria. This has been a hot game because http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/8483733.stm I met John here in HRC Cairo. He origin from London and work in Abu Dhabi on construction field. After Egypt won the match with 4 goals and Algeria get 3 red cards. Whole Cairo city went crazy…(check out the clips in youtube) I went on street celebration with John….. insert a story here: John seem to earn a lots, he foot the bill on the HRC expenses as well as the Taxi Fare even back to Flamenco. While paying the taxi driver, his money drop out from his pocket and someone from the road just ran over, pick up the money and returned to him which impress me very much. (it not always happen back in Malaysia)

Egypt Day 04 - Abbassa

Travelling to Abbassa Office. Have some Egyptian Food as Lunch. The life here is very much different from Cairo City. At night, decided to go outside Zamalek Island. Take a cab and ask the taxi to bring me Khan el-Kalili but I walk to wrong direction to somewhere and end up sitting with some old friend and young kid to drink shai and puffing sheesha.

Travelling to Abbassa Office. Drink Turkish coffee to start my day in Abbassa office. Tour by Dr. Gamal and Dr. Malcolm on the fish pond and green house setup in Abbassa office. Returned back to Cairo and again stroll more further around Zamalek Island.

Egypt Day 01 - Cairo

Depart to Cairo via Singapore Airline, Transit in wonderful Changi Airport and arriving Cairo via Dubai (1 hour on board transit) Check in Flamenco Hotel and went to Cairo Office. At Night, having pasta at Didos restaurant and stroll around Zamalek island and visited a souvenir shop called “lovely bazaar” (opposite flamenco Hotel) where I get cheated to buy souvenir at 300% more expensive.
