Portland Fleet Week 2011
Last week was Fleet Week in Portland. Our very own President, Adrian, attended with his son. Being a board member for the Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition (PNDC), he was invited aboard the USS Ingraham, which sailed from Kalama, Washington to Portland. The ride culminated with the ship’s arrival in Portland where all the bridges were lifted and a fireboat put on a great welcome with fanfare. What a fun trip for everyone. And did I mention that they were treated to a great BBQ spread on the flight deck.
Fleet Week is part of the Rose Festival each June in downtown Portland. The annual visit by the Navy has been a tradition for more than 80 years, with the first visit all the way back in 1907.
