Day 1. Susie in the meadow just north of Meeks Lake. Our first good view of the high country.
After 3 miles, the view starts to open up. For here on out, the views were glorious, all the way to Dad's lake.
Our first view of Dad's Lake.
Near perfect campsite at Dad's lake.
Dad's lake reminded us a bit of Maine. Maine without the peaks......
Relaxing in the evening light while dinner cooks.
Day 2. Susie cleaning up the morning dishes.
On our way to the higher country.
A small pond above Washakie Creek.
Crossing Washakie Creek.
Camp at Maes Lake.
Our layover day. Off trail in a saddle above and west of Pyramid Lake.
Looking back on our easy off-trail route above the lakes at the head of East Fork basin.
Susie exclaimed when she saw this: "Who needs Patagonia??!!"
Heading back to Maes Lake. Our camp is at the edge of the meadow in the distance.
Day 4. After an off-trail descent from Maes Lake, paralleling its outlet stream, we come to the upper reaches of the East Fork River. We think the view matches that of the approach to Cirque of the Towers.
Looking back as Susie descends on a rocky off-trail route along the East Fork.
As the East Fork reaches flatter country, the river spreads out to form narrow lakes.
Back on trail, we cross the East Fork on a sheep bridge.
Camp at the edge of Poston Meadows.
A little garbage fire in a safe spot in the gravel along the river.
Morning of Day 5. Sun never reached our campsite before we left.
One last look at the high country.
The "problem" with the Wind Rivers is that it is hard to keep track of all the lakes.
Our last good view, about 2 miles from the trailhead.
Into the changing aspen.
