VIDEO: Pajarito Mountain Ski Area 2012 New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade

2012 New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade down Lumberyard Run at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area, Saturday, December 31, 2011. There were about 35 participants, including the General Manager, Tom Long, who led the parade with an 8-flare "Monster Torch". Members of the Pajarito Mountain Ski School Instructors, Mountain Operations and Ski Patrol carried red road flares taped to bamboo handles down the mountain, skiing a serpentine line and following Tom Long.

Pajarito Mountain Fire Damage, About One Month After The Las Conchas Wildfire

Thankfully, most of Pajarito Mountain Ski Area's center section escaped damage from the Las Conchas Wildfire (June 26 to July 3, 2011, although the Fire continued to burn for a couple more weeks, but away from the Ski Area). However, there was significant damage to the East End (Townsight Area) and the West End (Rim Run, Gene's Choice and Ma Bell Area). These pictures were taken on a hiking tour of the upper ski area that started at the East End (Evershine Ridge Run) and continued all the way over to the West End (Gene's Choice Run).

VIDEO: Bear On The Run

About 8:15 PM MDT, a skinny, young (~3? years old) black bear [yes, even though his coat is tawny brown] had run across the NM502 highway at the Los Alamos National Laboratory TA-3 Security Checkpoint, coming from the Los Alamos County "Waste Transfer Station" [formerly the county landfill site]. It looks like this young bear has had a hard winter and had been foraging for food ("dumpster diving"). In this short video clip he is seen running back across the road {west-to-east], back toward the County "Waste Transfer Station". (This is the first free-roaming bear I have actually seen in Los Alamos in the 21 years I have lived here.)

Hummingbirds @ Morning Vol 3 - Los Alamos, New Mexico

The Morning After "Peak Day" (Friday, July 27, 2007) when almost ONE GALLON of sugar water was consumed by the equivalent of 351 hummingbirds. Pictures were taken Saturday morning about 6:30 A.M. July 28, 2007, as the crowd was refueling for the next leg of their prodigious migration back to Mexico.

Hummingbirds @ Los Alamos, New Mexico

The Annual Rufous Hummingbird Migration is in full swing as hundreds of Rufous and a few Calliope Hummingbirds return to Mexico down the Rio Grande Flyway, stopping off in Los Alamos, New Mexico, to "refuel".
