The scenery around the town of Yangshuo is famous throughout China if not the world
This is the view from the TV Hill in Yangshuo
The weather was really bad - nevertheless, the natural beauty of the region is still evident
Riding a bicycle through the countryside around Yangshuo is an unforgetable experience
The view from the top of the Moonhill (that's me in 2007!)
A view from the top of yet another hill...
Lijiang - that's Chinese for "River of Beauty". A beautiful place indeed!
Very few people are still fishing using traditional ways
A traditional Chinese village on the banks of the river
More nice rides around the Yangshuo countryside
Some traditional picturesque houses still exist
With the Yangshuo hills in the background
The friendly house owner who had been living there for over 40 years!
Surprisingly there were more traditional villages around Yangshuo
Really nice against the green backdrop
And some more gorgeous scenery
The up and coming town of Xingping, with a pretty traditional street and some excellent mountain views nearby
Beautiful old wooden houses
Some orchards at the backs of the local houses
Great views from the top of Xingping hill
The spectacular Longji rice terraces. This photo is from Jinkeng where the teraces have been cultivated over the years by the Yao people
Beautiful wooden houses by the terraces
Many of the Yao people still were their traditional clothes during everyday life
Working the fields is no doubt a hard work
Yao girls out for a team work in Big Dazhai village
The rice terraces in Jinkeng, nearby the town of Longsheng. Another truly spectacular sight, this time a man-made marvel

I wonder if these are cherry trees. Does anyone know for sure?
Start of the excellent day hike from Jinkeng to Ping'an and I am accompanied by Yao girls out on a field day
Along the trail
Visiting the villages along the way
A small, scenic waterfall
Getting nearer to Ping'an
With this great panorama opening up
Ping'an village was quite touristy, but the vistas were still excellent! I decided to continue on wards and spend the night in the next village
Another trademark wooden structure, this time a pretty bridge over the stream
Old Zhuang Longji village, a great place to spend the night
View of the wooden houses, rice terraces and mountains in the background was truly breathtaking
The Zhuang people who live on this side of the mountains. They were able to construct elaborate terraces and just as pretty houses
On the way to a funeral. The passing away of an 80 years old Yao man was marked by a fiesta attended by hundreds of people - visiting was quite an unusual experience! An interesting difference from funerals in the West...
Zhuang people crossing the river back towards the main road. I wonder where they were coming from?
Notice the young girl in the basket...
Already in Chengyang where it is possible to visit the pretty rain and wind bridge
The bridge was completed in 1912 by the Dong people, and is justifiably considered a local pride
And some more pretty bridges
The countryside nearby is enticing as well with plenty of traditional wooden houses
A dong water wheel, still in use for irrigation
Great views of the village and the bridge from a nearby hilltop
