"I really don't know Mark. This shot was taken in May 2010, before I was hand-feeding the chipmunks. I was sitting a distance away when I took this shot. Alvin has puffy white spots behind his ears and with the sun shining on this chipmunk, it's difficult to tell if the area behind the ears is white or if it's just the sun shining on the fur that makes it look like it's white. There really isn't any way to tell."

"The squirrel-proof feeders also help to keep the bully birds under control, another cost saver. The various blackbirds, Starlings, etc are a bit too large to comfortably use most of the feeders, and if more than two try to use a feeder at any given time it shuts down. I still see bully birds, but mostly they are on the ground looking for scraps dropped by other birds. They no longer chase my little song birds away from the feeders. All in all I've found squirrel-proof feeders to be a good investment."
