After the second bandaging, and now onto the trail run. Every time I saw a photographer, I tried to smile, but I assure you, I was hurting right here.
Riding through a burned out section of forest after the crash. They wrapped it up once, and I was running off pure adrenaline through the rest of the bike.
Finish Line. 1.5 mile swim, 22 mile mountain bike, 5 mile trail run
This smile is genuine.
Time for more wound cleaning.
After the Race, this is the 3rd bandaging. I had the ambulance patch me up at the bottom of the hill, then had a better cleanup after the bike, then had this dressing put on after I finished the run.
We get started at the quick care center. I've already taken two vicodin, but this hurt so bad that I was shaking uncontrollably. They gave me some percoset, and that took care of all the pain. I got downright chatty after that.
you can't tell, but this is about 1/3rd of an inch deep, surprisingly, it didn't damage any muscle tissue or bone.
From sliding on my shoulder and helmet.
All cleaned up. You can tell my direction of travel (slide) from the scrape.
4th bandaging of the day. I'm sick of this by now.
Where I slid on my helmet, upside down, with a bike on top of me.
The crack on the other side of the helmet
After one day of healing. Note the divots in my elbow and shoulder. Those sucked. Also, aside from hanging my gut out, my arm was swollen up pretty big.
This came out of my elbow in December, 6 months after the crash. I think there are still a few grains of Colorado sand in there somewhere, and they'll probably be with me until I die, or lose my arm, whichever comes first.
