Easter 2010

Wow! Only 5 of 19 photos are mine. At one point in the festivities I handed my latest (I love the quality) camera to my niece/ Gabi's big sister and told her to 'go for it'. She really delivered! I'm proud of my first shot, but ... Isabella is a natural. Photos are alll cropped for 4x6 prints in case anyone wants them. If you want larger, let me know and I can try to re-crop for other sizes.

Righting the Tangerine Tree

In the last big rain here, our tangerine tree fell. With the ground soaked, the weight of the fruit on the tree was enough to pull the tree over. These pictures document today's effort to save the tree by righting it.

The Great Garden Experiment 2009

I've always kind of wondered if the purple/UV leds would work as grow lights. Since I've been playing with changing out the LEDs in solar garden lights I thought ... hmmm ... on at dusk, off at dawn ... I wonder if the plant would think the sun was out all day or if it would see it that way, get tired, and die. What follows is a picture by picture description of the experiment.

WM001 - Cell Palms

My first waymarking adventure. Actually I might have picked a different location but seeing as I was driving a friend home and this was on the way, we stopped to check it out. I thought it was pretty cool being the first time I've ever seen one of these, but my brothers (both) inform me that disguised cell towers are all over southern and northern california.

Into the Fractal Forrest

The title comes from the first image I rendered from flawed code but which inspired me to rewrite a similar Fractal generating program to render in two views. The traditional top down view and a new side (or front) view. The front view is where these images show up. I'm still tweaking, but figured a preview was worth while. More tweaks and better colors to come ...

Ano Nuevo

Elephant Seals. Cold, rainy day but the seals (all 5,000 or so pounds each of them) love it cold and rainy. You think I'm big? Too bad I didn't have more of a zoom with me. Still the whole area was beautiful. [I've now updated the photos from the original posting]

Best of the WebMaster's Garden

For the last couple of months I was tracking several garden planters. Actually, it started as only a few planters, but it has exploded into more than I care to count. Next year (or later this year as this is Souther California so the plants won't know the seasons) I'll be more careful about just how much I plant. I am now removing a lot of the Picasa albums and simplifying to only a few with the best pictures. This album is the best of the flowers. The second (for now) is 'Tomato Cut and Paste' about how the cherry tomatoes have taken over.

Tomato Cut and Paste

When I started expanding my garden along the railing outside my apartment I planted some tomato seeds. Judging from the picture on the package it looked like these would be small plants. Turns out they aren't. I had planted five seeds in each of four planters for a total of twenty plants. They've since become quite large. This album helps document progress and how I solved some of the problems that arose.

Mid July Gap Comparison
