Elephant Sanctuary
The Elephant Sanctuary, Kuala Gandah, off Karak Highway on the way to Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia.
How to get there: Take the Karak Highway, via Sentul, Kuala Lumpur and go past RM4 toll. From here head off to Kuantan for 81km, passing two more tolls. Get off at Lanchang. After exit toll, take right (opposite direction of Lanchang town) and follow narrowing road for 14kms. You may miss the sole signboard to sanctuary, but you won't miss the Deer Park signboard (turn right).
If you miss or are too early for feeding times at 10am and 2pm at the elephant sanctuary, you can then take right to deer park and see sunbear, snakes, pheasants and feed deer and ostriches. Otherwise proceed to Gandah, avoiding humongous patties on road, until you reach Orang Asli settlement and small suspended bridge. Entrance is by donation.
Fun time feeding the elephants, patting them, riding them. Andrea and Anita even braved riding one of them, named Abot, into nearby river where they got dunked!
