A little-known beach near Big Sur. Not easy to find and the locals like to keep it that way!
Launch at Big Sur. A huge grassy meadow with 2 wheel drive (when the road isn't wet) access.
We camped out in Thor's backyard using his tent-cot.
On XC at Marshall. Mt. San Gorgonio is in the background (highest peak in SoCal).
Joshua Tree National Park. March is a nice time of year to visit temperature-wise, but not a good idea because of the March Break crowds!
At the summit of Mt. Ryan in J Tree. Mt. San Gorgonio in the background (looking at the back side of it).
We were a bit early for the desert bloom, but we found this cactus had gotten a head start on the other cacti.
Twilight in Joshua Tree.
Camping in New Jack City. During the weekdays this place is empty; we had the entire site to ourselves after the weekend!
The panty wall at Red Rocks Canyon. The routes here have names such as Boxer Rebellion, Silk Panties, Tighty Whities, and Wedgie.
Belaying Alex on the Panty Wall.
The back way into Red Rocks. This avoids the loop road (which is one way and thus a pain to drive if you only use one end of it for parking).
The black corridor. A popular spot for those really hot and sunny days when most everything else is baking in the sun.
The sandstone formations are all sorts of colors. Red, pink, and white stripes are common.
Zion National Park. This is the Angel's Landing hiking route. Hike to 5800' and the last bit has steep dropoffs. You have to be careful not to fall off the edge; advertised as not for the faint of heart, those with medical issues, or those with fear of heights or edges.
Looking down from Angel's Landing.
Hiking in Zion National Park.
Twilight in Zion National Park.
Waterfalls in Zion. These will have overhanging gardens later in the season due to the constant source of water nearby.
