Some of the starting line up.
My bike at the start.
Niagara Falls, ON I encounter my Canadian riding pals Jim and Donna Phillips and Stephan Bolduc. I first came upon them at a road construction blockage on the way to Perce and am convinced that without this fortuitous encounter I may have missed low tide at Perce.
Standing in line at the Gateway Arch. The first bonus points.
Do I need to say Niagara Falls? This was the photo required for the bonus (with the flag naturally).
Just an interesting (new) coverd bridge I discovered in Ohio

On the way to Independance Pass in Colorado. I have just come out of this vally and am still climbing.
Hard to tell but this pic is shot at about a 45 degree angle. Run off the road up here and you will be a long time coming to a stop.
The view at Independance Pass.
I am a geology buff and the next few shots are of the San Rafael Swell but not nearly as nice as what you can see here http://www.sanrafaelswell.org/about/about.php
Statue of Liberty at New York New York casino in Las Vegas
Patriarch Tree
The road to get here was a challenge. From what I hear much better than it was the next day. They had added fresh dirt and graded. Then it RAINED! I'm really glad I got there on the previous day.
This was the bonus shot of the Patriarch Tree. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/methuselah/expl_patriarch.html
The bad part of the road to/from Patriarch Grove. About 10 miles in and 10 miles back out. You can't see how washboarded it is. It beat me and my bike up pretty nicely. Several folks had spills and flat tires on this bonus.
The town off in the distant valley is Big Pine, CA
After the 10 miles of dirt you still had about 20 of paved mountainous roads that were challenging too.
Shot of Big Pine now that I am off the mountain.

Glacial Point Half Dome
Mono Hot Springs -- second most challenging road!!
Lick Observatory

It was a steep climb. Again a photo shot with a severe down angle.

Bonneville Salt flats. I wanted to stop and take some photos but I didn't want to stop (the frustrating aspect of LD riding on a clock) but there was an accident that forced a stop.
This is an incredible stretch of road between Wendover, NV and Salt Lake, UT. 125 miles with a 55 mile straightaway! Hard to hold the speed down when the line of sight almost shows you the curvature of the earth.
I don't know the details but the car had rolled and was pretty severely damaged.
Two helicopters medevaced the occupants.
Me and Matt Watkins. Matt finished 17th on his FJR.

Ira Agins, Stephan Buldoc and his girlfriend from Monterey, Mexico. He live in Quebec. I guess some LD riders like LD relationships ;-)
I had the honor of sitting next to one of the great ladies of LD riding at the finishers banquet. Ardys Kellerman got several awards last year for riding over 100,000 miles in one year. I hope I can still ride like in 15+ years when I am her age (I'm trying to be nice Ardys and not give away the stats).
Don and Bean Arthur.
leg 2 GPS readings. You don't really think the LT will go 236 do you?
One happy finisher! Shot by Voni Glaves at my arrival in St. Louis
