I flew a C-172 with Brian and Craig Winglovitz from BKL to Medina, fuel stop at Kalamazoo, then to Fond du Lac. The next day Brian and I flew into OSH. Craig flew us to Toledo Metcalf, then home to BKL.

Sliding Canopy Frame Bending

This is a photo essay of how I bent the sliding canopy frame of my RV-6. The methods used were gleaned from Scott McDaniels' article in the FAQ's section of the Van's Aircraft Company website, VansAirForce.Net, and local RV builders who have progressed past this point. I also strongly urge each builder to have an assistant during this job. I had a very difficult time working on this when I was alone. As always, your mileage may vary. I hope this essay helps someone else.

Instrument Subpanel Shelf

This shelf has been added to the underside of the instrument panel ribs in order to add some acreage for attaching instrument boxes. I have attached two cooling fans on the top side of the shelf and have the LightSpeed ignition box, light dimmer, and the AFS AOA control box on the underside.

Hawaii

Flying into Honolulu. Flew over Diamondhead. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency on Waikiki Beach. Hiked to the top of Diamondhead, an hour and a half excursion. It's something everyone should do, if they are physically able!

Pedal Eagle

These photos are of the Pedal Eagle I built for my older son many years ago. I purchased plans and the kit that was available at the time, complete with the decals. Thane States' RV-10

Thane flew up from Charlotte, NC, with Radomir Zaric, who had sold me Rad's prop. They hand-delivered the prop to me. Can't get any better service than that! Bernie Ockuly and I flew some formation with them when they left Medina Airport.

Instrument Panel

Instrument panel as received from Aerotronics, Inc. They are located in Billings, MT (see map). I worked with Gary Wirrell and Jason Smith in setting up my panel. They were great to work with and offered excellent suggestions! I have temporarily installed the panel into the fuselage!

Crotch Strap Kit

These brackets are from Van's crotch strap kit for the RV-7 and -9. The brackets don't quite fit the right side of my -6. I cut off one side of each bracket and made new brackets to allow each bracket fit between the ribs.

Oshkosh 2008

Rick, Brian and I flew Rick's Bonanza from Medina Muni (1G5) to OSH with a fuel stop at GRR. We parked at the south end of Row 522 and were joined by Scott later that day. Scott left midweek and we were later joined by Jeff and Dana, who arrived in their Bellanca Super Viking.

RV Proposed Paint Scheme

I found these photos of N4479, an RV-7 which had attended a fly-in in the US in 2007. The aircraft has since been sold to a pilot in Canada. I plan to use this paint scheme and replace the purple with navy blue and change the striping to a metallic gold.

Lone Star Flight Museum

This museum is laid out very well and has a nice collection of aircraft. I rode in the Continental DC-3 during the opening day at Oshkosh 1999 with my friend, Rick. The DC-3 was restored by Continental Airlines employees.

Imperial War Museum Duxford England

Photos taken at the Duxford Air Field during our trip to England. Includes the American Air Museum. This is a fantastic museum and a minimum of four hours are required to see (quickly) everything.

England Trip

Mary and I spent eight days traveling thru England for our Twentieth Wedding Anniversary. We spent the first three days in London, then rented a car and drove thru the Cotswolds for the next five days. We stayed at two B&B's (bed & breakfast) and had a fantastic time.
