Bed 5 - Loft Twin

Twin bedroom in the loft with view towards the sunset. Light and airy with velux window and blind. Restricted height (just about 6 ft / 1.82m in the centre of the room). Shares a shower / toilet with the other second floor bedroom. Plenty of drawers and hanging space in the eaves cupboards (restricted height).

Bed 1 - Master bedroom

The master bedroom has views up to the mountains, across to Sant'Angelo and down towards the coast. A full height french window with a balcony rail gives views of Sant'Angelo across the valley. A luxury ensuite bathroom is cleverly tucked in behind the rakishly angled king size bed, and there is a comfortable sofa and armchair in the room as well as the usual wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Porto San Giorgio

PSG is our favourite seaside resort; we try to get down there for at least one meal every time we visit Italy. Sandy beaches and a warm welcome at Ristorante Quadrifoglio - even over the winter. I've even spent all afternoon in the restaurant on a conference call / web meeting, by the magic of mobile broadband.

A visit to Venice

Everyone should spend at least a couple of days in Venice at some point. I was there first as a small boy in 1964; I passed through again on Interrail in 1973. Finally we made it to Venice for a couple of nights in the middle of August. It was crowded, and expensive - but such a place. And would you believe it, my 12 year old daughter bumped into a class mate as we walked away from St Mark's Square late one evening. A small world, truly....

We visited Rome the weekend of Palm Sunday - not a great time as the Vatican was of course completely packed - the queue for the Vatican Museum was over a mile long. And it rained. And the Sistine Chapel was jammed and noisy. But Rome is a great place to walk around, the sites are spectacular and the food is good too.

Gola dell'Infernaccio

The Gola dell'Infernaccio (Hell's Gorge) follows the course of the River Tenna through the narrow gorge between Monte Sibilla and Monte Priora in the Sibillini mountains. The town shown is Montefortino - the gorge is to the west of Montefortino on the map below. These pictures are a bit foggy, but they give you some idea of the scenery. See if you can spot the goats clinging to the far side of the valley

Civitanova Marche

Civitanova is where our nearest superstrada (SS77) meets the coastal autostrada (A14). It's also the nearest bit of (rather gritty) beach. There are two coastal strips: the lungomare sud - straight and dull, but with plenty of restaurants and easy to park; or the lungomare nord, harder to get to and tucked in beside the town and the harbour. These pictures were taken at Batik.

Urbino

Urbino is a lovely university town in the north of Le Marche. Because of its brief but intense cultural flowering in the 15th Century under the Dukes of Montefeltro, followed by stagnation in the following centuries, it has retained its historic features, and in 1998 it was made a UNESCO world heritage site. The palace contains works by Piero della Francesca and Raphael.
