Somewhere, in the mountains of North Carolina... I took this picture. I think it was between Murphy and Asheville.
The view looking south-ish out the window of my hotel room.
Another view looking south. That tall building? It's purple. Yes, purple.
Not from my window, but this is from a window near the elevators. This is looking north at the heart of downtown Charlotte.
Downtown Charlotte is extremely clean, and also very pretty, with several tree-lined streets similar to this one.
My first night in town, I decided to explore a little bit. This was coming back downtown from the area around the UNC-Charlotte campus, which is north of town. So, this is looking southeast at the city skyline.
I'm not a Panthers fan, but it's always neat to see an NFL stadium up close.
Charlotte's big buildings make for an attractive central business district.
Funny... if that's the NASCAR headquarters, I'm a little surprised. I assumed it would be a rough assembly of several single-wide mobile homes out behind (the late) Dale Earnhardt's house. RIP, 3. I know you're racin' in Heaven, or whatever the bumper stickers say.
Another view of my hotel, on the right.
Inside the lobby of the hotel, looking towards "Bar 10".
Yes, the picture is blurry, and no, it wasn't from drinking too much at "Bar 10".
In the foreground is a building that has a place called "Fuel Pizza", which smells really good. Behind that is some condos. Would be a nice place to live, for sure.
Downtown... or um, I guess I should say "Uptown".
A place called Aquavina, a "wine bar" that I'm assuming my lovely girlfriend would have liked. But me, I'm no vino-phile. I didn't try it.
On the "green", which is a park between the two buildings I mentioned a couple of photos ago (Fuel Pizza and the condos). I'm not sure what the deal is with some of these signs, but I thought they made for a good geography-related photo.
Yeah, I've already taken a picture of this, but it all looked nicer in the early morning sun. You can't really see it in the photo, as it's just a white speck; but on the horizon, just left of the purple building, is the Carowinds theme park, home to something like 13 roller coasters. In "real life" I can see a couple of the coasters.
And just another view looking west...
