Mt. Whitney Day 1
These photos are from day 1 of our overnight hike to Mt. Whitney (July 2-3, 2007). Could not have asked for a more gorgeous day! Not a speck of cloud in the sky. We started from the Portal around 9 am. Got to Trail Camp around 2 pm and set up camp. Then relaxed by the lake at Trail Camp. Finally, after the sun went down behind the peaks, filtered water, cooked dinner, and then retired for the night hoping to get some shuteyes (at 12000', not very likely).
Milestones: Whitney Portal Trailhead (8,360 ft, mile 0), Lone Pine Lake (9,925 ft, 2.8 mi), Outpost Camp (10,335 ft, 3.8 mi), Mirror Lake (10,650 ft, 4.3 mi), Trailside Meadow (11,395 ft, 5 mi), Consultation Lake (11,680 ft, 5.8 mi), Trail Camp (12,000 ft, 6.2 mi), Trail Crest (13,600 ft, 8.5 mi), Whitney Summit (14,497 ft, 11 mi).
