Charlotte's Web (working title... work in progress)
City of North Vancouver's new Public Library project. (work in progress)
The first few pictures are the prototype LED screen. 1 segment of 20, wedged in between two mirrors to complete the mock-up maquette.. There will be 2 screen suspended in the light wells on each end of a cable spanning a 49' laminated wooden beam. The screens counterbalance each other and will move slowly, with a one hour period, up and down through the three floors. The ground floor in one light well is the childrens library the other is the book checkout. As the screens rise and fall, they will transcend a virtual space in the volumes through which they move. Quotes, bits of random text, imagery, and titles being checked out each day, will show up on the screens as a static elements in suspension that the screens move through. The photos here show the maquette, the initial screen mock up, the beam construction and the LED crew in the midst of 34,000 LEDs.. and finally the piece in place.
