Breaking ground, autumn of '08.
The foundation.
It all went up very quickly.
Framing for my high windows on the north end.
The "shell" is complete in about a week's time. It will take us a bit longer to finish off the inside!
New flooring! I had to wait to paint the walls until the trim and the lights were in.
The pavers are under way to create our sidewalks and courtyard patio by late winter/early spring. No more mud!
Let there be light! Now I'm ready to paint the walls.
...and husband is ready to be finished with this stinkin' project!
All moved in by spring of '09.
I haven't hung any paintings on the walls, but at least I'm workin'!
The loft above allows for extra storage. We rigged the ladder to work "library" style so that it can roll back and forth across the width of the loft.
What a difference a summer makes.
Patio fountain among the ferns and palms.
This is the entrance I use most often. It faces the courtyard patio and our back door.
Around the corner..the new flower beds are coming along.
Here's a good shot of the the front and side of the studio with the surrounding garden beds as it is today. Our Crepe Myrtle has spawned a baby in the foreground. We will try and move it soon to another part of the yard.
The French doors offer lots of light and make it easy to load/unload larger paintings.
The house protector.
A birdbath surrounded by more of my wild gardening style.
The steps to the back door of our kitchen create another excuse for more potted plants...mostly herbs.
I don't have to go far now for inspiration. This plein air painting of my potted herbs and flowers was done under my studio portico. "The Cook's Garden," Oil on linen, 16x12"
