Tashkent Uzbekistan
The ancient city of Tashkent was important trade center on the Great Silk Road. It has been almost totaly destroyed by the earthquake in 1966 and little of it's historical heritage remains. However Tashkent has preserved the spirit and flavor of the ancient oriental city. Despite the seedy soviet concrete block architecture, the capital of Uzbekistan is very green, quiet and relaxed in comparison with many busy and chaotic asian metropolis.
