Emily and Mu on our first night, we stayed at Tabot Campgrounds.
This time Mu is looking at the camera.
Sadie makes her own Christmas Tree.
At night all five of us girls and two of the dogs would pile in a two person tent. It's a good way to stay warm. You can see my forehead in the lower left corner here.
Emily tells good stories.
Shawna sleeps all bundled up.
It was really cold while we were out there. I think it got down into the 30's both nights.
Mu is wondering if she can beg some toothpaste off Leslie.
A map of the Granite Chief Wilderness. Notice the big green line that shows the no dog boundary (deer fawning areas).... and notice the Talbot trailhead and the trail that goes right through that boundary. We'll we decided that we probably shouldn't go there since we had three dogs with us and we didn't want to mess up any potential Bambi families..
The alternate trails we were going to check out are up this snow covered road, can't get up there with our little economy cars.
We finally found somewhere to hike!
The scenery is pretty.
And about 15 minutes into our hike we come to a private property line! We just can't win on this trip.
After hiking back down the road a bit, we take off our packs and cross the stream.
Shawna is excited to have climbed a rock. Go Shawna!
Shawna and Leslie strike a pose.
There is lots of snow on the ground here still.
Sadie is sleepy, even though we only walked 25 minutes or so.
Almost a group photo. Don't they all look so happy?
Me and Sadie. Sadie looks alert here because we said "kitty kitty".
The real group photo.
See, Sadie got sleepy again after realizing we were just teasing her about there being kitties.
Morgan and Elphie.
Face time with Mumu.
Just some cool roots on a rock.
Sadie on a perch.
It's cool to see the snow melting from below.
A look across the river.
Up the river from on top the log.
Down the river from on top the log, and my finger in the upper left to show how pro I am at taking pictures.
Sadie doesn't mind crossing logs.
Shawna and I win at putting up our tent first, but we lost at taking it down first the next morning.
Elphie waits while mom puts up her tent.
Sadie is so dainty the way she crosses her paws.
Mu is regal. This shot needed some "Mr. Green". (Mr. Green is Mu's Kitty Kitty)
Camp the second night. It's not more than 10 minutes from the car.
Despite not getting much of a backpacking trip in, this was just about the most fun camping trip I've been on.
Emily and Mu again, this time Mu has her jacket on. It was cold out there!
Emily took this picture of the moon behind the silhouette of the trees.
More river, it was really pretty and it wasn't as cold as I would have though with all the snow around. It was still cold though.
And some more river.
Oh look, more river!
Apparently I was sad to leave the river. In conclusion, the trip could have gone a bit smoother, but ended up being a lot of fun. We definitely plan on going out there again when dogs can go into the Picayune Valley. (deer fawning restrictions are only in effect two months out of the year).
