This is why I work so hard. I spend so much time in the field, it would be very difficult for me to spend much time with my kids if they didn't enjoy being out there with me. So I try to make it fun for them, taking them on interesting side trips to sand dunes, earthquake faults, salt flats, lava fields, snorkling in the ocean, and trying various light painting techniques at night.
So far it seems to be working. While they're enjoying more independence and time with their friends as they get older, they still enjoy coming along on my photography expeditions. They borrow my older cameras from time to time, and in 2007 and 2009 Nicole placed well in a local photography contest. Then in 2011, she won Runner Up (2nd place) in the Youth section of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year contest!
