William J, Smaltz " Stretch" 11/29/39 - 4/18/08
Stretch was the owner of Smaltz's Harley-Davidson in Eagle, PA. I first met Stretch in the fall of 2003 as part of a project I was involved with for the Harley-Davidson Corporation.
In what was supposed to be a one hour meeting, which lasted two and a half, I learned first hand from Stretch what it meant to truly live the American Dream. From a row home in
South Philadelphia to a lovely farm in rural Chester County, Stretch was a unique individual who embodied the American entrepreneurial spirit. Based on a simple principle of friendliness and treating the customers as family, Stretch built allot more than a motorcycle dealership along Route 100 in Eagle, PA. He built a community.
He was active in a wide range of charitable causes and activities, including those that benefited children in need, our War Veterans, those Missing in Action, POWs, and the Amish
He was a good man, and will be someone I will forever remember as a fine human being.
