"Great question. This depends on where you live. If you live in an area that gets below freezing temperatures consistently in the winter, you would need to heat the water as Tilapia do no do well in water temperatures below 55 degrees F. For colder climates we recommend cold water fish like yellow perch or catfish unless you are willing to invest in a supplemental heating system such as a solar water heater, wood burning water heater, or just general electric heat."
