2009 BAP Lunar New Year Parade
Ten BAP youth, grades 4-8, marched and danced with the District 3 Youth Development Network contingent in this year's Lunar New Year Parade. The contingent was made up of 100 youth from seven agencies within the Chinatown/North Beach area (district 3). Cameron House hosted to the group for lunch before the parade, and dinner afterwards. The weather was great, and the contingent marched as oxen, followed by a huge cart filled with wheat, which was followed by drumming farmers, followed finally by 50 awesome dancers, which represented the harvest. The costumes were created by the Cameron House youth and staff. It was an impressive feat of coordination among the several agencies, and a great lesson in what we can accomplish when we cooperate with others outside the Cameron House community. We even got on the KTVU telecast for about a minute! Can't wait til next year.. the Year of the Tiger!
